Your Tally carries over almost as-is; Dubai ads name it outright. What resets is everything around it: UAE VAT through EmaraTax, 9% Corporate Tax, payroll with WPS and gratuity instead of TDS and PF, an attested degree tied to a MOHRE skill level, and pay that can start well below what you expect.
The UAE's tax layer is young (VAT since 2018, Corporate Tax since 2023), so an ad asking for local years is probably asking, at least in part, whether you've handled them.
The idea that overseas accountants get "treated as freshers" is not established fact.
| What you do now | Carries over? | What changes in the UAE |
|---|---|---|
| Double entry, AP/AR, bank reconciliation, month-end close | Fully | Little; ads list them both as duties and as requirements |
| Tally ERP 9 / Tally Prime with UAE VAT | Yes, your strongest asset | Set up for UAE VAT (VAT ledgers, TRN, VAT 201). Tally Prime can upload and submit the VAT 201 to EmaraTax; Tally's prerequisites include a valid licence with an active TSS subscription, and a TRN and Account ID in the correct format |
| GST, sales tax or VAT returns at home | The logic: output minus recoverable input tax, tax-invoice discipline | 5% VAT under the FTA. Registration is mandatory from AED 375,000 of turnover, voluntary from AED 187,500 |
| TDS on salary, PF, ESI | No | No personal income tax on salary. At employers registered with MOHRE, payroll normally runs through WPS, and end-of-service gratuity accrues |
| Income tax and tax-audit work | Partly, as logic | Corporate Tax: 9% on taxable income above AED 375,000, registered via EmaraTax |
| B.Com / M.Com, Inter-CA, CMA / CA (part-qualified) | Yes; ads quote these words | Needs attestation; MOHRE's floor for skill levels 1–2 is a bachelor's degree |
One UAE Tally partner's setup guide puts it bluntly: "Do not create GST ledgers."
If the right-hand column is where you're thin, that's the gap Sarmat's UAE Practical Accountant Program is built around. For the tax itself, start with the UAE's 9% Corporate Tax rule.
First comes attestation. It starts in the country that issued your degree and ends with UAE MOFA — the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, formerly MOFAIC.
The legs differ by country: see work in Dubai from India, from Pakistan or from the Philippines. Our attestation guide covers the full chain and the equivalency certificate for Indian and Pakistani degrees.
Second comes the work permit, which MOHRE issues for a job title and skill level. Its education floors are a bachelor's degree or higher for levels 1–2, a diploma or higher for 3–4, a high-school certificate for 5, and none for 6–9. It adds: "Workers who earn less than AED 4000 per month or who do not possess a degree are not considered skilled."
Ask the employer which job title and skill level your permit will carry.
Third comes verification. On 26 May 2025, MOHRE and MoHESR launched digital verification of degrees from outside the UAE for private-sector workers at skill levels 1 to 4, which MOHRE said it would embed into work permit issuance. Gulf News, citing an official report, said private-sector employers and employees must "obtain attestation or equivalency" for academic qualifications.
Note the "or": there's no single private-sector rule on MoHESR recognition (the equivalency), so ask the employer. What UAE employers actually verify on your certificates goes deeper.
UAE years, at every strength. Aviare Group (August 2026) wants "2-3 years of accounting experience (including at least 1 year in the UAE)"; Accuvat Chartered Accountants (July 2026) says "1-3 years of UAE experience (Mandatory)". Accountant jobs in Dubai without UAE experience do exist: Prime Class Businessmen Services (May 2026) advertised for "Freshers or 1–2 Years".
Your qualification, in your words. Accuvat asks for "B.Com / M.Com in Accounting or Finance" and prefers "CMA / CA (Part-qualified)"; FGF wants an "Inter-CA or M.Com qualification".
Tax, not just books. Royal Vision Desert Safari Camp (July 2026) asks for "Working knowledge of UAE VAT and Corporate Tax requirements".
Software, by brand. Prime Class lists "Tally, QuickBooks, Zoho Books or similar".
Visa status. Prime Class also writes: "Candidates on Spouse Visa or Dependent Visa are particularly encouraged to apply".
WPS isn't a screen. None of these ads filters on it, but at an employer registered with MOHRE, WPS payroll will likely be part of your job from the first payroll.
A visit visa buys interview time, not work. The jobseeker visit visa runs 60, 90 or 120 days "without requiring a host/sponsor in the country", per u.ae, and Gulf News (11 September 2026) is blunt: obtaining the visa "does not guarantee employment."
It keys off the same paperwork: u.ae lists applicants "in the first, second or third skill level" under MOHRE, or top-500-university graduates from the last two years, and asks for "a bachelor's degree or its equivalent" plus a financial guarantee. If an offer comes, read up on switching from a visit visa to an employment visa.
Already here on a spouse or dependent visa? You're the kind of candidate Prime Class invited; see getting a work permit on a family visa.
The spread is wide. All figures are AED.
For contrast, one Indian edtech career guide puts junior accountants at AED 10,000–15,000 a month, and another training provider at AED 5,000–10,000. Budget on the ads, not the guides.
Royal Vision's offer sits below AED 4,000 a month, the line under which MOHRE doesn't count workers as skilled; if yours does too, ask which job title and skill level the permit will carry.
What it covers. Sarmat's UAE Practical Accountant Program runs 15 hours over 10 modules, beginner to intermediate, so modules 1–4 (the basics) will be revision for you. The value for you is in modules 5–10: bank and SOA reconciliation, UAE VAT and filing, Corporate Tax registration via EmaraTax, payroll with WPS and end-of-service, hands-on Zoho Books, Xero, Tally Prime and QuickBooks, and month-end reporting.
Tally will feel familiar; Zoho Books, Xero and QuickBooks may not. It's taught in English by a senior accountant with 12+ years of UAE experience, in class in Deira or in the same live sessions online.
What it doesn't do. It doesn't create UAE experience; only a first UAE job does that. It doesn't replace ACCA, CMA or CPA, or teach ERPs like SAP and Oracle, IFRS in depth, or e-invoicing. And there's no hiring promise here: Sarmat has no documented hiring outcomes for this course.
The fee is AED 4,999. The course is registered with KHDA as "Accounting & Financial Management" (15 hours) and leads to a KHDA training certificate of attendance, not a qualification, degree or licence.
Already living in the UAE? Review the course page for the UAE Practical Accountant Program and choose class in Deira or online. Residents get the KHDA-attested certificate on completion, against their Emirates ID, and can split the fee with Tabby or Tamara (UAE and GCC residents only).
Still abroad? Start attesting your degree for the UAE now; the first legs happen in the country that issued it. Studying online, you get a Sarmat certificate of completion first and the KHDA-attested certificate once you hold an Emirates ID, within about a year of finishing, and nothing is retaken. Getting certified before you move to Dubai sets out that sequence.
Either way, start with one WhatsApp message: ask Sarmat whether the program fits your experience. We'll tell you honestly, even if the answer is no.
Some do: Prime Class Businessmen Services (May 2026) advertised for "Freshers or 1–2 Years", though the same ad required candidates already based in the UAE. Most ads quoted in this article ask for local years, from "at least 1 year in the UAE" to "Mandatory". That filter probably reflects UAE VAT and Corporate Tax work, at least in part.
Yes: Dubai ads name it alongside Zoho Books and QuickBooks. What changes is configuration: VAT ledgers, a TRN and the VAT 201 return instead of GST ledgers. Tally Prime can upload and submit the VAT 201 to EmaraTax; Tally's prerequisites include a valid licence with an active TSS subscription, and a TRN and Account ID in the correct format.
The spread is wide. Indeed shows about AED 3,800 a month on average (September 2026), a Layboard ad for an "Accountant" role in Dubai (posted 3 September 2026) listed AED 5,500–8,000 a month for 3+ years' experience, and two July 2026 ads offered AED 2,500–3,000 and AED 4,000 a month.
