Underneath that sits a quieter worry you have probably not asked anyone about: if a company said yes tomorrow, are you even allowed to say yes back?
You are. You do not need a new visa. A dependent visa work permit in Dubai is a separate MOHRE permission that sits on top of the residence you already hold — your parent stays your sponsor, their visa is untouched, and your employer, not you, is the one who files it.
Almost no career guide written for graduates mentions that. Here is the rest of what nobody told you.
Under Cabinet Resolution No. 65 of 2022, a UAE resident can sponsor a son up to the age of 25. Unmarried daughters can stay on a parent's sponsorship without an age limit, but that ends on marriage.
So if you are a son who finished a degree at 22, you have roughly three years of cover — not forever. Male students over 25 can generally remain sponsored with proof of enrolment in a higher education course of at least one year, but once you stop studying, that door closes.
Some graduates ask about staying on a student residence instead. Check that with GDRFA directly before you plan around it — the published student permit is built on active enrolment, with your university acting as host and guarantor, which is exactly what graduation removes.
If a residence does lapse or get cancelled, the grace period is not one number. ICP tiers it: 180 days for students who have completed their studies, 90 days for skilled workers in levels 1 to 3 and property owners, 60 days where the permit was issued with a guarantor or host, and 30 days for every other category.
So the pressure on you is not deportation next month. It is the age-25 clock, and it keeps running while you send applications into a market where every entry-level listing draws a crowd.
Yes — with a permit. MOHRE runs a specific service called Work Permit – Dependents Sponsored by Family Members. Amer and Tasheel desks usually call the same thing a relative work permit, and most blogs call it a dependent work permit. Three names, one permission.
MOHRE's own conditions for the service are short: you must be 18 or over, and you must hold a valid residence permit under your relative. That is you.
The distinction that trips everyone up: this is a permit, not a visa. Your residency file stays where it is, sponsored by your parent. You are not transferring to your employer, and your parent is not losing anything.
Which answers the fear that stops most graduates before they start — no, a dependent work permit does not cancel your family sponsorship. If you are on a spouse visa rather than a parent's, the family contract work permit for spouses is covered in full here, and our breakdown of UAE work permits by visa type maps every other residence category.
You cannot apply for this yourself. The employer must be registered with MOHRE and files through the MOHRE portal, the smart app, or an authorised service centre such as a Tasheel branch. The permit runs for two years.
What they need from you is short: a passport copy valid at least six months, a colour photo on a white background, the signed MOHRE job offer form, and your academic certificates. MOHRE ties that certificate requirement to skill level — a bachelor's degree or higher for levels 1 and 2, a diploma or higher for levels 3 and 4, a high school certificate for level 5, and nothing at all for levels 6 to 9.
Two conditions matter before the interview: you must hold a valid residence permit under your relative, and you must not already have an active work permit somewhere else.
MOHRE publishes the numbers. The application is AED 50 and issuance is AED 250 — roughly AED 300 in federal charges — plus a business centre commission capped at AED 72 if the file goes through a service centre. None of those figures include tax and collection charges.
You will also see MOHRE describe the service as free of charge through its website and smart app, except for federal charges. Read that carefully: the channel is free, the permit is not.
Either way, the bill is not yours. Article 6(4) of Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 prohibits an employer from charging a worker for the fees and costs of recruitment and employment, directly or indirectly, and Article 3(1) applies the law to every private sector establishment in the country. If a company asks you to pay for your own permit, that tells you something about the company.
Put this line in your cover email, because most hiring managers at small firms do not know it.
MOHRE's conditions state that an electronic quota is not required for a work permit issued to someone under a relative's residency, and that all skill levels and professions are allowed under the service conditions. For a Deira trading company or a corporate services firm watching its quota, a candidate who does not consume one is easier to say yes to.
That is a commercial argument for hiring you. Very few graduates make it.

Both are legitimate. The right answer depends on how much runway your sponsorship has left.
| Stay on parent's visa + work permit | Move to employer-sponsored visa | |
|---|---|---|
| Who sponsors your residence | Your parent | Your employer |
| The age-25 clock (sons) | Still running | Stops mattering |
| If you leave the job | Residency unaffected | Must be transferred or cancelled |
| Best for | Daughters, and sons with years left | Sons near 25, or anyone wanting independence |
A son at 24 taking the permit now and converting to employment residence later is a normal sequence — get in the door first, sort the file second. An unmarried daughter with no age cap can build experience on the permit without disturbing anything.
Government services is one of the few Dubai sectors that promotes on process knowledge rather than years served. Someone who knows exactly which Amer counter handles which application, and never submits an incomplete file, beats five years of vague admin experience.
The employers are everywhere and hiring constantly: typing centres, Amer and Tasheel providers, corporate services and business setup firms, free zone authorities, law firms, and SMEs that need a PRO but cannot justify a senior one. How the sector works and who staffs it is worth reading before you apply.
Pay is honest rather than glamorous at the start — entry-level PRO and typing centre roles typically sit around AED 4,000–6,000, rising to AED 7,000–12,000 once you handle visa files and company setups independently. The full salary picture by level is here.
You cannot invent two years of experience. What you can do is prove you already know the work, which is what the "2+ years" line is a lazy proxy for.
A KHDA-certified credential does that on paper — the same argument we make for candidates arriving from outside the UAE with no local track record. You have an advantage they do not: you are already resident, already permitted to work once an employer files, and available to start immediately.
Sarmat's Certified PRO Officer Program is three days, KHDA-certified, and built around what happens at the counter — visa applications, Emirates ID, labour contract filing, company documents, and the order departments want them in. It is taught by a mentor with 8+ years of hands-on PRO work, 500+ visas processed and 100+ company setups, with three months of mentorship afterwards for when you hit your first rejected application.
Learn this over two years by making expensive mistakes on someone else's files, or walk into the interview already knowing the workflow. Over 300 graduates chose the second route, out of 5,000+ clients served across Dubai in 12+ years.
Yes, provided your employer obtains a MOHRE work permit for dependents sponsored by family members. You do not need a new visa: your residence under your father's sponsorship stays exactly as it is. The residence alone simply gives you no right to work, and the permit is the piece that adds it.
No. A dependent work permit sits alongside your existing residence, which stays sponsored by your parent. You are not transferring your file to your employer and your parent loses nothing, but this misunderstanding stops good candidates from applying at all.

The Certified PRO Officer Program is AED 2,890, and with Tamara or Tabby you can split it into roughly AED 720 a month over four months — less than one month of that first salary band.
