This guide to Amer center jobs in Dubai covers what the listings leave out: who is hiring, what they want, and how to get your first job at an Amer centre.
Amer centres are GDRFA Dubai's service centres for visa and residency work: entry permits, renewals, cancellations and related transactions, all in one place. But the phrase "Amer job" covers two very different employers.
The first is the official Amer centre. GDRFA Dubai describes its Apply for new Amer center service as "dedicated to investors" who meet its requirements. So an official outlet is a privately owned business working under GDRFA's licence and standards.
The second is everything around it: private typing centres, PRO firms and document-clearing offices that sell Amer-related services, sometimes with "Amer" in their trade name. If an ad doesn't name a licensed centre, it may well come from this group. For the wider sector, see our overview of typing centre jobs in Dubai. For the kind of visa and Emirates ID work these offices handle day to day, see our typing centre services in Dubai.
The first Amer centre opened in May 2017, Gulf News reported. By March 2018, 21 were open, and Khaleej Times reported that the centres were managed by Emirati private investors and "fully operated by trained Emirati staff (a minimum of 15)". The plan to reach 70 centres by the end of 2018 was expected to create jobs for over 1,000 Emiratis.
That is how the model was described in 2018, and it may not match today's rules. Still, it shows the front counter was designed with Emiratisation in mind. You still see it in listings, where some counter roles are advertised for UAE nationals only.
For expats, the realistic openings are sales and customer service at official centres, back-office and typing work, and jobs at the private offices that process Amer transactions for clients.
Usually not. Your employer is the private company that holds the Amer licence, not GDRFA itself. GDRFA hires its own staff separately, through its employer page on the Dubai Careers portal.
GDRFA still shapes your working day. In 2021, according to ICP's media centre, it launched a training programme for some 700 Amer centre service employees on its "Ithra" learning platform. In July 2025, Gulf News reported that GDRFA Dubai had rolled out a training toolkit for Amer centre employees, which most newly hired staff completed within two months. It covers customer service, handling official documents, the indexing system and the rules on administrative violations.
Put enough vacancy posts side by side and you can see the job ladder:
"Amer typist" is the vacancy you'll see most. Employers want fast, accurate data entry on GDRFA systems. You also need to know which documents each transaction needs, so that applications don't come back.
Across listings, the same asks keep coming up:
Some ads ask for a diploma or degree, but it is rarely the deciding factor. Employers are hiring for experience and speed, and your application has to show both.
Ads ask for experience you can only get by being hired. These are the practical ways around it.
Before you send your passport copy, check the ad against this list:
Then check that the centre exists. GDRFA Dubai's official website has a searchable Customer Happiness Centers directory with an "Amer Centers" category. If the centre isn't listed and the company can't show a trade licence, treat the ad as unconfirmed.
Amer ads ask for experience, not certificates. No course gives you that first year, and no course guarantees you an interview or a job.
What training can shorten is the learning curve. You can pick up GDRFA transactions on the job over two years, making expensive mistakes on real clients' files. Or you can spend three days learning how visas, permits and company documents move through the system, and go into interviews already knowing the terms.
Sarmat's Certified PRO Officer Program is KHDA-certified and runs every week, Monday to Wednesday, 10:00–15:00. It's hybrid: you can join in our Al Rigga classroom in Deira (9 seats) or live on Zoom. Your mentor has 8+ years of hands-on PRO experience and 500+ visas processed, and Sarmat has 12+ years in UAE government services.
If you're still outside the UAE, the KHDA certificate requires an Emirates ID. Without one, you receive a Sarmat completion certificate first and can apply for the KHDA certificate once you have residency.
Many roles are open to expats, especially sales, customer service, typing and back-office work. Some counter roles are advertised for UAE nationals only, so read each ad carefully.
Not always, but it helps a lot, and many ads list it as required or preferred. If you only speak English, focus on sales, online customer service or back-office roles.
Usually no. Official Amer centres are privately owned businesses licensed by GDRFA Dubai, which sets their standards.
An Amer centre handles GDRFA Dubai visa and residency transactions. "Typing centre" is a broader label for private offices that prepare documents for several departments. See our explainer on how Amer and Tasheel centres differ and our typing centre FAQ for Dubai.
No certificate guarantees a job. Training helps you understand the transactions and talk about them confidently in interviews, but you still have to meet the experience requirement.
Look for a named, licensed centre with a real company email. Check the centre against GDRFA Dubai's official directory, and never pay a fee to apply.
