The timing matters. The Ministry of Finance (MoF) started an e-invoicing pilot on 1 July 2026, and businesses with revenue of AED 50 million or more go live on 1 January 2027. The tax layer under the software is getting heavier, and it is the part the ads ask about.
We opened three English accountant ads on LinkedIn on 18 September 2026.
GoStride Ventures, "Senior Accountant", Dubai:
"Working knowledge of accounting software such as Zoho Books, QuickBooks, Tally, or Xero."
"Prepare and file VAT returns and corporate tax returns in line with FTA requirements and deadlines."
MENA-Water, "Accountant - Zoho and QuickBooks Specialist", Sharjah:
"Familiarity with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Zoho, or Oracle-based ERP."
"Basic understanding of VAT & CORPORATE TAX."
Choose UAE, "Accountant", Business Bay, Dubai:
"Hands-on experience with cloud accounting software (QuickBooks Online or similar)"
"Such as" and "or similar" mean the brand is an example, not a filter. Even MENA-Water, which puts two platforms in its job title, lists them with "such as" in the requirements.
The tax line is different. Two of the three ads name both VAT and Corporate Tax. GoStride asks you to file both returns "in line with FTA requirements and deadlines".
Three ads are not a survey, so this article does not rank the four platforms by how often ads name them. The pattern is still worth planning around.
Our advice: learn one cloud platform, Zoho Books, and one desktop platform, Tally, well enough to post an invoice and pull a VAT report. Then learn the UAE tax layer properly, because it transfers from one platform to the next. Expect to be tested on both in the software round of a Dubai accounting interview.
Zoho prices its UAE plans in AED, excluding local taxes. They run from a free plan to Ultimate at AED 799 a month, or AED 660 a month billed annually.
The plan decides what you can practise. VAT filing starts on Standard, at AED 69 a month, or AED 60 a month billed annually. Corporate Tax starts on Professional, at AED 129 a month, or AED 90 a month billed annually.
Zoho says its product is "FTA accredited" and tells users to "Directly file with EmaraTax!" Those are the vendor's own claims. Zoho's help centre lists 30 languages for Zoho Books, including English and Arabic.
Zoho Software Trading LLC is an accredited e-invoicing service provider on the MoF list as of 17 September 2026. The free plan allows 1,000 invoices a year, enough to practise on.
TallyPrime is the desktop platform in this comparison. Tally's MENA site sells a single-user subscription at AED 78 a month, on 1, 3 or 12-month plans (AED 78, AED 234 or AED 936). The page does not say whether VAT is included, so confirm before you pay. Cloud access on AWS costs extra, from AED 63 a month per user, and still needs a TallyPrime licence.
Tally's MENA product page lists UAE VAT e-returns and bilingual English and Arabic invoices. Tally's help centre adds that you can "upload and submit your UAE VAT 201 e-Return directly to the EmaraTax portal from TallyPrime", which needs a valid licence with an active TSS subscription. The product page does not mention Corporate Tax.
"TallyPrime 6.2" appears on the FTA's Tax Accounting Software Register, valid until November 2026. Tally Software Solutions FZCO is also an accredited e-invoicing service provider as of 17 September 2026.
If you learned Tally overseas, your ledger habits carry over but your home tax rules do not. Getting an accounting job in Dubai with overseas experience covers what employers check beyond the software.
Xero prices its UAE plans in US dollars a month: Lite USD 7, Starter USD 29, Standard USD 50 and Premium USD 75. New UAE customers get 80% off for three months, and there is a 30-day trial. Xero says its UAE software "will be in English", and that it will look "to add Arabic where it is required for compliance (e.g. VAT reporting)".
"Xero 2026" is on the FTA's Tax Accounting Software Register, valid until March 2027. Xero is not itself an accredited e-invoicing service provider as of 17 September 2026.
The Xero UAE pages we checked make no Corporate Tax claim. On VAT, Xero's UAE page lists the ability to map "your financial data to FTA-ready VAT returns" as a "feature coming soon to Xero". That shows what the vendor says, not what the software can do.
Ask the employer how they file, and learn the UAE Corporate Tax deadlines for the 2026 financial year either way.
QuickBooks Online is sold in the UAE in four plans: Simple Start, Essentials, Plus and Advanced. Intuit's UAE pricing page loads its prices live, so check the current price there before you buy.
Intuit's UAE VAT page says "QuickBooks is pre-filled with the UAE VAT rate of 5%". It adds that the software "prepares an accurate activity statement to help you with your filing".
It does not claim direct EmaraTax filing, so plan on filing the return yourself from its figures. Intuit is not an accredited e-invoicing service provider as of 17 September 2026.
Choose by the ads you are answering, not by market-share claims. We found no sourced figure for how many UAE firms run each platform.
If your target ads say "cloud accounting software", as the Choose UAE ad does, start with Zoho Books. If you already know Tally from a previous job, keep it and add Zoho as your cloud platform.
Either way, practise the same five tasks on each:
Once that workflow makes sense, a second platform is mostly new menus.
| Zoho Books | TallyPrime | Xero | QuickBooks Online | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Price | Free to AED 799/month (AED 660/month billed annually), excl. local taxes | AED 78/month, 1 user | USD 7–75/month | Loads live on Intuit's UAE pricing page; check at purchase |
| VAT (vendor claim) | Filing from Standard plan; "Directly file with EmaraTax!" | Upload and submit VAT 201 to EmaraTax from TallyPrime (active TSS needed) | Mapping to "FTA-ready VAT returns" listed as "coming soon" | 5% rate pre-filled; no direct EmaraTax filing claimed |
| Corporate Tax (vendor claim) | From Professional plan | No CT filing claim found | Not mentioned on the Xero UAE pages checked | No CT filing claim found |
| FTA software register | Not confirmed | TallyPrime 6.2, valid until Nov 2026 | Xero 2026, valid until Mar 2027 | Not confirmed |
| MoF e-invoicing ASP (17 Sep 2026) | Accredited | Accredited | Not accredited | Not accredited |
| Interface languages | 30 listed, incl. English and Arabic | English; display also in Arabic and Bangla | English; Xero is "looking to add Arabic where it is required for compliance" | 11, incl. English and Arabic |
Source: vendor UAE pages and help centres, the FTA Tax Accounting Software Register and the MoF list of eInvoicing Accredited Service Providers, checked 18 September 2026. "Not confirmed" means not on page 1 of the FTA register; pages 2 to 4 could not be read.
The FTA register is a vendor listing, not a mandate. Vendors apply through EmaraTax with a written declaration that their software meets FTA requirements. The FTA reviews the application, and once it is approved the vendor pays AED 10,000 to be listed. The FTA page does not say taxpayers must use listed software. When a pitch says "FTA-approved", read it as "listed on the FTA's register", not "required".
E-invoicing runs through accredited service providers (ASPs). The MoF timeline under Ministerial Decisions 243 and 244 of 2025:
As of 17 September 2026, the MoF list of eInvoicing Accredited Service Providers shows 54 accredited providers and 8 pre-approved providers in final assessment. Zoho and Tally are accredited. Xero and Intuit are on neither list.
That does not make Xero or QuickBooks users non-compliant. The model lets a business connect through any accredited provider, so a Xero or QuickBooks user can connect through one. Check the list again before you rely on it.
No platform stops a wrong entry from reaching a return. Read the VAT and FTA mistakes that cost UAE startups penalties before you trust an auto-filled figure.
To rehearse the VAT return and EmaraTax steps with a trainer, see Modules 6 and 7 of the UAE Practical Accountant Program.
Zoho Books is free up to AED 200,000 of revenue, for one user plus one accountant. You need Standard (AED 69 a month) to file VAT and Professional (AED 129 a month) for Corporate Tax. A single-user TallyPrime subscription is AED 78 a month.
Pick the platform your accountant already knows well. If you would rather hand the books over, Sarmat's accounting services are the done-for-you option.
You can learn the UAE tax layer on the job, one late filing at a time. Or you can rehearse it before the interview and walk in knowing the steps.
The UAE Practical Accountant Program runs 15 hours across 10 modules. It is taught live in English, in class in Deira or online, and costs AED 4,999. The course is KHDA-certified.
Modules 6, 7 and 8 cover VAT and VAT filing, Corporate Tax registration on EmaraTax, and payroll through WPS. That is an introduction to the tax layer the ads above mention.
Module 9 is a 2-hour introduction to Zoho Books, Tally, Xero and QuickBooks. It is an introduction, not mastery. Depth comes from practising on one platform afterwards.
Not sure which platform to start with, or whether the program fits your level? Message us on WhatsApp and tell us which software you use now.
Or read the full module list on the UAE Practical Accountant Program page.
We found no reliable public count. The UAE ads we read on LinkedIn on 18 September 2026 named Zoho Books, QuickBooks, Tally and Xero as examples, with "such as" or "or similar". Learn one cloud and one desktop platform, plus the VAT and Corporate Tax workflow behind them.
Follow the ads you are applying to. Start with Zoho Books if they ask for cloud software, and keep Tally if you already know it. Both Zoho and Tally are accredited e-invoicing service providers on the MoF list as of 17 September 2026.
Yes. Xero sells UAE plans priced in US dollars, and "Xero 2026" is on the FTA's Tax Accounting Software Register. The Xero UAE pages we checked make no Corporate Tax claim, so ask the employer how they file.
Intuit says QuickBooks is pre-filled with the 5% UAE VAT rate and prepares an activity statement to help you file. It does not claim direct filing to EmaraTax. Intuit is not an accredited e-invoicing provider as of 17 September 2026, but a QuickBooks user can connect through an accredited one.
The FTA's page on its software register does not say so. Vendors declare in writing that their software meets FTA requirements, the FTA reviews the application, and approved vendors pay AED 10,000 to be listed.
As of 17 September 2026, Zoho and Tally are accredited e-invoicing service providers on the MoF list. Xero and Intuit are not, but their users can connect through an accredited provider. The list changes often, so check it before you decide.
